The Anat Baniel Method of desk exercises and office stretches is based on the work of Dr. Feldenkrais

 Anat Baniel, a brain and movement specialist, a clinical psychologist by training, benefited from 11 years with Dr. Feldenkrais - first as a student of his, then his assistant and eventually his close colleague. Based on her 28 years of active and highly successful practice with individuals and groups, Anat has taken the Feldenkrais method to a new level of understanding and application while developing the Anat Baniel Method. Anat works with the human brain and its remarkable capacities to form new connections and patterns that replace those that cause pain and limitation. Her method generates a new awareness and other tools essential for opening up this opportunity for people. Anat's basic assumptions have been proven scientifically sound through a lot of the research conducted in the last years about Brain Plasticity. Her work provides highly effective, rapid, and reliable results and has been applied in programs geared towards a variety of working disciplines such as desk exercises and office stretches for workstations, exercises for professional musicians, professional athletes and physical therapists dealing with problems such as upper and lower back pain, neck and shoulder pain, wrist pain, sports related injuries, attention disorders and Repetitive Strain injury (RSI).

The first essential is movement done with attention. It is a powerful tool for communicating with the brain and getting the brain to rapidly form new possibilities. When all nine essentials are brought into play, the student experiences greater flexibility and strength of body and mind; pain disappears; thinking becomes clearer; sensuality and creativity blossom and there is greater vitality and increased well-being. Children with special needs transform in ways not possible before.

Anat has developed defined sets of short, simple and easy desk exercises and office stretches exclusively for Desk-Trainer.  These exercises are geared for computer users, travelers (The flying Trainer), people on the move (The cellular Trainer), and people at home in front of a TV set (The Armchair Trainer) to protect against injuries, improve functioning, and reduce aches, pains, strains and stress.
The exercises are simple and safe and should be attempted only within the no-pain range. Whenever there is no way to avoid pain, it is recommended to do the movement using one's imagination (An effective way to induce learning and change that has been demonstrated in recent neuro-physiological research).  The exercises are non-competitive (there is no question of aiming for the highest, furthest, or strongest), but rather use easily attainable movements to improve the quality of functioning. In addition to reducing strains and pain, these short desk exercises and office stretches improve the mood and general sense of well being of the user.
The Anat Baniel Method has improved the lives of thousands of people through individual and group teaching, and she has been training new teachers for her method since 1997.
